Personalised Learning

Welcome to Personalised Learning. Our team of teaching assistants work across the curriculum supporting students to become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens. At QES, a fully accessible and well equipped building, we actively promote inclusion and see it as a process which maximises each student’s learning and raises their levels of personal achievement.

The department is very experienced in supporting students whose needs include:

  • Communication and Interaction

  • Cognition and Learning

  • Social, emotional and mental health difficulties

  • Sensory and/or physical needs

We offer a range of intervention strategies and support, personalised to the needs of the individual; this may be short term or more long term.  We have strong links with all our middle schools and detailed transitional information about support needs is passed onto all QE staff.

The types of support may include:

  • High quality teaching with differentiated lessons

  • Small group literacy and numeracy sessions

  • One to one or small group speech and language programme

  • Dyslexia and dyscalculia screening

  • Assessment for Special Examination Arrangements as specified by JCQ

  • Higher Level Teaching Assistant support

  • Teaching assistant support in the classroom

  • Close links to external agencies including Educational Psychologist, Speech & Language Therapist, Vision Support Services, Hearing Support Services, Local Authority Education Officers, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, East Dorset Family Partnership Zone

  • Staff trained for basic medical needs

  • Meet and greet before school

  • Break time and lunchtime support

  • Personalised curriculum where appropriate

  • Study support

  • Individual learning profile for each student, shared with teaching and support staff

  • Access to after school clubs and activities, including additional support from a teaching assistant where required
