Update from Headteacher 26th March 2020

26th March 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

Thank you for all of your support following the closure of the school to pupils at the start of this week. We are particularly grateful for your support in ensuring that students are completing the online learning that is being set for them daily by the teaching staff. We will continue to set work for students using their timetable and staff will monitor the completion of this where appropriate. If you have any questions related to the set work then please do not hesitate to contact the relevant subject staff using the staff emails that are on the school website.

Following the government directive around staying at home we have taken the decision to continue to set work over what would have been the Easter holidays. We have taken this decision to help provide students with some structure in these uncertain times and also a focus for their days.

For parents and carers of students in Year 11 and Year 13, we have not received any further information from the exam regulator, Ofqual, or the exam boards regarding the GCSE, A level and BTEC qualifications. When we have any further information I will write to you separately with an update.

For students eligible for free school meals we are in the process of coordinating a system to provide vouchers with Dorset Council. Once the details of this have been finalised we will contact you with further information.

Earlier this week I wrote to all critical worker parents to inform them that due to low numbers attending school we had taken the decision to close QE. We have placed the small number of students who require childcare into another Wimborne Academy Trust school.

The government advice remains that parents and carers should only send their child to school if their work is critical to our response to Covid-19 and there is no one at home to look after them, or it is not safe for them to remain at home. If you are a parent or carer of a child with an EHCP, within one of the vulnerable student groups or you are a critical worker and you require childcare from the week commencing 30th March then please could you email office@queenelizabeths.com. A member of staff will then make contact with you to try to accommodate you child within one of the Wimborne Academy Trust schools.

Once again, thank you for your continued support.

Take care and stay well.

Yours sincerely

Katie Boyes
