It was another busy day of mock interviews this year with 600 Year 10 and Year 12 students taking part in the day-long exercise with 65 business leaders helping to give them the opportunity to experience what a ‘real’ interview is like.
Each student sat a 15 minute one-to-one interview and then received face-to-face feed- back on their performance from the industry professional.
‘I was utterly impressed by what was the emotional maturity of your students. I was expecting children; I found young adults (in both Y10 and Y1
2) who were more than capable of holding their own in an interview. There was no arrogance or cockiness – only a self-assured maturity, combined with modesty, and, in many cases, a strong determina- tion and drive to achieve their goals’ said Michael Butcher, Commercial Director, Quantum.
Every interviewer then nominated one Year 10 and one Year 12 student to receive a certificate of excellence for outstanding performance in their mock interview.
Thanks to one of our extremely kind interviewers, Stephen McManus, Managing Director of Stephen C Associates, two of our students were then drawn out of the hat to receive two tickets each to see Olly Murs in the summer in Bournemouth
“This is a fantastically worthwhile exercise which brilliantly helps equip students with valuable employability skills’ said Stephen McManus
“I was more than pleased to participate and wanted to give something back as an incentive to the students who worked so hard to prepare for these mock interviews.”
Organiser Hayley Jones, the school’s Careers Advice & Guidance Manager, said: “In an increasingly competitive employment market, I strongly believe in the importance of equipping our students with valuable employability/interview skills.
“I’m grateful that so many busy businesspeople devoted so much of their precious time to this exercise – and it certainly benefited the students, with 77% of those taking part saying they felt less nervous about the
thought of future interviews.
